| Answers: How can I get my my parents to realize that I'm an adult? I am a single mother at the age of 23 my son is 4 and ever since I became pregnant with my son my parents have treated my younger brother and me very different they just give him a lot more credit for less amount of work and acknowledge his achievements way more then me. I live on my own in a two bedroom apartment and I go to college for Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering and already have a years worth of credits behind me. I also work seasonal jobs here and there and recently planed an entire baby shower for my best friend that was complimented by 75% of the guest which there were 25 people that attended. I am even a single mom that has my son with me basically every minute of the day, except for when I'm in classes or working, even on weekends when most people my age are out partying. The only thing that I can't understand is why even though I have done everything that is expected of a young woman of my age even given my situation is why my parents still insist on trying to act as if I am only a teenager and even though I have my own place they try to control me. I have even had friends say that I inspire them, friends parents tell me that I have come a long way and that they are proud of me, and even adult strangers say that they are amazed by me. I am 23 but I have just been very sheltered I guess. My parents have ways of controling me partly because I for some reason I cannot explain allow them to and also because in a sense I feel obligated to do as they tell me because the viehical I use to get back and forth is actually my dads and so he constently is threatening to take it away from me if I don't do what he wants me to. There have actually been times when he has taken away the vehical and I had a very difficult time living without it. When I tried to buy a vehical on my own I simply didn't have enough credit to do so even on a cheap one. I even asked my mom to buy me a cheap vehical that I could make monthly payments on but she wouldn't and even though I have tried to |
| Firstly your parents love and care for you very much and want you to realize that they are there for you. You seem to be very independant and that is great, but your parents are using the vehicle as a way to keep you under their control. If you can find anyway possible to sort this vehicle situation out then the control will revert back to you and you may find that your parents will back down and help you in the way that they should. Maybe a close friend can help you. |
